Creative Walks

Back to Activities

Creative Walks are free monthly guided walks around Cambridge, using simple creative prompts to help you slow down, explore your surroundings and spark new ideas, followed by time to reflect and connect over a coffee. No creative experience needed.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • It encourages people to slow down, spend time outdoors and connect with their surroundings through gentle walking, observation and reflection;
  • It encourages creativity and self-expression, giving people space to explore new ideas without pressure or expectation, and helping to build creative confidence;
  • It offers a relaxed way to meet others, share ideas and feel part of a creative community, helping to build meaningful connections and reduce social isolation.

What to expect?

The Creative Walks are relaxed, guided walks exploring a different part of Cambridge each month, run by Cambridge Songwriters Collective. Before the walk, participants receive a set of simple creative prompts designed to help them slow down, notice their surroundings in new ways and spark ideas. During the walk you are welcome to walk quietly with your own thoughts or chat and connect with others along the way.

At the end of the walk, the group stops at a nearby café for some relaxed reflection, with the opportunity to share anything you noticed or were inspired by. There is no pressure to share or produce anything.

The walks are completely beginner-friendly and no previous creative experience is needed. They are open to anyone interested in songwriting, writing, poetry, drawing, photography, or simply exploring their creativity. Places are free but should be booked in advance via Eventbrite. You can find the Eventbrite links for upcoming walks on the Cambridge Songwriters Collective website.

Each session lasts approximately two hours, including the walk and café stop. You are encouraged to stay for the whole experience where possible, but you are welcome to leave earlier if you need to.

More information

Each Creative Walk explores a different route around Cambridge. Full route and meeting-point information for each walk will be provided when booking. This will include information about accessibility and facilities.

You should wear comfortable footwear and clothing suitable for walking and the weather. You may also wish to bring a notebook, phone, camera or other simple creative materials, although no special equipment is required.

Formal carers, informal carers and support people are very welcome to attend alongside the person they are supporting, free of charge, and either participate in the creative activities, or simply accompany and support the attendee. They should book a place to enable the organisers to keep track of numbers and ensure there is enough space for everyone.

If severe weather means a walk cannot safely go ahead, registered participants will be contacted with an update.
