Allotment at Clay Farm – Trumpington Street Medical Practice

Back to Activities

Trumpington Street Medical Practice has a Gardening for Health allotment at Clay Farm where patients and staff meet to grow vegetables and enjoy each other's company in the fresh air. All patients of the practice are welcome to join this relaxed and friendly group activity.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • Spending time outdoors can help boost your mood and reduce stress;
  • Gardening is good physical exercise and can give you a real sense of achievement;
  • It’s a nice way to meet new people and spend time together working towards a common goal.

“The allotment is so peaceful, it is my happy place!”

What to expect

The group runs from March to October each year. They meet on Saturdays from 11.30am to 1pm at the allotment to carry out whatever jobs need doing. All patients of Trumpington Street Medical Practice, including Clay Farm Medical Centre, are welcome to come along and help as much as they are able to. Go directly to Plot 38. There are usually between 2 and 4 people there on any Saturday morning who will greet you, show you the different tasks and talk about what you might like to do.

There is a raised bed, suitable for people who can’t bend and light jobs are available. The site is wheelchair accessible, although the paths are rough gravel rather than tarmac.

Any vegetables grown at the allotment can be taken home by the volunteers, and any left over are donated to a local Food Hub.
