This activity is good for wellbeing because
- It provides a safe and encouraging community for young men of all backgrounds and cultures;
- Taking part in sports and physical activity can improve your mental wellbeing as well as your physical fitness;
- You can meet new people, socialise and form new friendships, both locally in Cambridge and with people in other Bridge The Gap communities across the country.
"Honestly in all the years I've played football I've never left with such a smile on my face. Really grateful, and everyone was so welcoming and friendly."

What to expect
Bridge The Gap runs weekly football sessions on Monday evenings at St Matthews Primary School for young men aged 18-30 of all backgrounds and cultures. People of all levels of experience are welcome, including beginners. However, participants will need to be able to run freely without support.
The group is supportive and encouraging, and aims to promote good mental health. Unlike some football teams which can have a 'lads culture' this group has strict rules against bullying, swearing or violence, creating a safe and fun environment for all players. People of all faiths and none are welcome. The sessions start and end with a short prayer, and there is an opportunity to learn more about the C3 Church.
If you would like to join one of the weekly sessions you should book a place on the Bridge The Gap website. If you have any questions you can email btgcambridge24@gmail.com. The sessions run from 7pm to 8pm but players are encouraged to arrive at 6.45pm to warm up and be allocated to a team. Volunteers meet and greet everyone on arrival. On your first session they will introduce you to a few other players in order to help you feel comfortable.
You should wear sports clothing and a pair of Astro Football Boots, no studs are allowed on the surface. You should bring a bottle of water. The sessions run in all weathers including snow, rain and cold, so please dress appropriately.
If you wish you can bring a guest along to the sessions. They will not be able to play unless they fit the criteria of being 18-30 and male, but they are welcome to watch. Attendees are encouraged to stay for the whole session.
