Buggyfit Cambridge

Back to Activities

Buggyfit is an outdoor postnatal exercise class where you can get fit whilst spending time with your baby. The friendly instructor leads the group in a whole body workout, with exercises adapted to suit all levels. All mums of babies and toddlers are welcome to join.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • Exercising in a group can help you to stay motivated;
  • You will meet lots of other new mums;
  • The qualified instructor is experienced in training postnatal women, so will be able to give you specialist advice and support.

“I love Buggyfit because it gets me out of the house, spending time outdoors. It gets me moving and makes me feel strong and good about myself. Also, it’s so lovely to meet other mums and we go for coffee afterwards too”

What to expect?

Buggyfit classes in Cambridge are run by Maggie Fordham, a personal trainer with twenty years’ experience and three children of her own. The sessions take place at Romsey Rec on Vinery Road. Meet at the main entrance. There is free on-street parking available on Vinery Road.

Each Buggyfit class lasts an hour and includes a mixture of power walking and post natal exercises, including bodyweight and resistance band work. There is a focus on core and pelvic floor restoration and whole body strengthening and reconditioning. Everyone works to their own level with modifications given for all exercises. It doesn’t matter if your baby cries, needs feeding or nappy changing during the class, that is all part of Buggyfit!

The sessions are held outside whatever the weather. Make sure that you and your baby come prepared for sunshine or rain! You don’t need a specific pram or buggy to take part. You need to bring a yoga mat or picnic rug for the floor work. Also bring some water and make sure you are wearing comfortable clothes that are easy to move in, trainers and a good sports bra.

You need to complete a health screening form before your first session. Email [email protected] to book your place, and you will be sent the form to complete.

More information

You can join Buggyfit classes as soon as you have had your GP check and they have told you that you are OK to exercise (this is usually at 6 weeks postnatal, or 10-12 weeks postnatal if you had a caesarean). Mums of older babies and toddlers are also welcome to join – providing your child is happy to be wheeled around in a buggy.

Your first Buggyfit session is a free taster class.

If you would like to bring a family member along with you to any sessions (e.g. partner or parent), they come for free.

To attend Buggyfit classes there is a monthly fee to pay. All details on the Cambridge Buggyfit webpage.
