What to expect
Cambridge Chesterton Indoor Bowls Club is one of the largest bowls clubs in the UK. They are open seven days a week with opportunities for beginners to learn the game, and for more experienced players to compete with others. A real mixture of ages and abilities attend the club.
If you are a beginner you are recommended to sign up to one of the coaching sessions, which take place on Saturday and Sunday evenings. Each session lasts 2 hours, but you do not have to play for the full session.
You will be lent a pair of bowling shoes to wear for the session, and all equipment will be provided. A friendly coach will greet you, and teach you the basics. You will have a chance to practice and receive lots of individual feedback. For dates of upcoming coaching sessions contact the office on admin@chestertonindoorbowls.com or 01223 362713.
You can play as a non-member for two sessions. After this you are required to sign up to the club as a member. There is an annual membership fee - the fee for your first year is heavily reduced. There is information about how to become a member on the club website. You can choose between a full playing membership or a social membership. There is a reduced rate for young adults and no membership fee for Under 18's.
After joining, new members are encouraged to further participate by joining a new bowlers league and also take part in 'drives' - fun, social sessions for newer bowlers to meet and play with others and integrate into the club.
