Cambridge Harmony Chorus

Back to Activities

Cambridge Harmony Chorus is a fun, friendly, female acapella group who sing in a 'barbershop' style. They sing a range of music spanning 50s/60s classics, folk, pop and more.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • it’s a great way to meet new people and socialise while working towards a common goal;
  • it can help to boost confidence levels and provide a sense of community;
  • singing is proven to boost mood and reduce stress, as well as improving memory function.

“Monday evening is a highlight of my week. We work hard to master the songs and synchronise our different parts, but there’s also lots of laughter and socialising. However tired or out of sorts I may feel when I arrive, I always go home on a high.”

What to expect

Cambridge Harmony Chorus are a friendly choir who sing in a four-part, close harmony modern ‘barbershop’ style. They are currently an all-female group, but they are open to anyone over the age of 16 who can sing within the Soprano or Alto range.

You don’t need to have any previous singing experience to join the choir and you don’t need to be able to read music. Audio tracks for all songs are provided, so you can learn by ear.

The choir perform regularly to the local community with sing-outs at nursing homes and performances at events such as the Mill Road Winter Fair.
