Child & Family Centres - Stay and Play

Back to Activities

Weekly Stay and Play sessions for children under the age of 5 and their carers/parents, held in Child & Family Centres across Cambridge.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • meeting other parents and carers and sharing experiences is reassuring and reduces isolation;
  • Stay and Play activities are an excellent way to support your child's development and learning;
  • your confidence in your parenting skills will grow by observing and being around others - and professionals are available to help you with any concerns you have.

"I've been suffering (in silence) with post natal depression and the group really has made me get up and out. Staff welcome us every week with lovely smiles, they take an interest into both our lives and generally just brighten our day! We've both made friends and would recommend it to everyone."

What to expect

Stay and play sessions are for families with children aged from 10 months up to 5 years.

A range of toys, play equipment and activities are available in 'stations' for your child to explore and play with. There could be messy activities so please dress your child in something you don’t mind getting dirty.

There's a quieter baby area with wiggle mats, baby toys and cushions for your baby, and you can use this area for feeding. Self-weigh facilities are available during sessions if you'd like to weigh your baby.

Some Stay and Play groups include circle-time for rhymes, stories and singing. Please bring along some fruit or vegetables to be shared by the group at snack time.

Children do need to be supervised but you can still meet/chat with other parents/carers.
