Community Activities at Cambridge City Council Independent Living Schemes

Back to Activities

The Independent Living Schemes run by Cambridge City Council have a wide range of activities every week, including coffee mornings, bingo, craft sessions, film nights and strength and balance classes. Anyone in the local community aged over 65 is welcome to go along and join in!

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • You can meet new people, socialise and form new friendships;
  • You can try new things, connect with your creativity and learn new skills;
  • You can take part in fitness sessions that will help you to increase your strength, balance and flexibility.

What to expect

The Independent Living Schemes are run by Cambridge City Council, and home to tenants aged 65 and over. Each scheme runs groups and activities which are open to older people in the wider community, listed below:

  • Brandon Court, Prospect Row – craft group, seated yoga and meditation, film night and coffee morning;
  • Ditchburn Place, Mill Road – film club, coffee morning, strength and balance class and craft club;
  • Ditton Court, Ditton Lane – bingo and coffee morning;
  • Lichfield Hall, Lichfield Road – bingo and social club;
  • Mansel Court, Mansel Way – coffee morning, strength and balance class and bingo;
  • Rawlyn Court, Rawlyn Close – coffee afternoon and craft afternoon;
  • School Court, Thoday Street – coffee afternoon;
  • Talbot House, Fisher’s Lane – strength and balance class and coffee afternoon.

To view the current calendar of events visit the Cambridge Older People’s Housing Facebook page

Most of the activities are run by tenants and there will not be a member of staff on site for every activity. All of the buildings are accessible, and all have parking (although some have very limited space).

If you are thinking of attending a session for the first time you should contact the Activity Coordinator Olivia on 01223 457199 or [email protected] . Olivia will either greet you at the activity herself or arrange for a tenant to welcome you.
