Mini Athletics brings running, jumping and throwing to life through imaginative, coach-led sessions for children from walking age to eight. They build confidence, coordination and a love of movement while helping every child learn, play and thrive.
This activity is good for wellbeing because
- Participation builds confidence and independence, as children are supported to try new skills, take on challenges and feel proud of what they can achieve;
- It supports physical and emotional wellbeing as the active games help children develop coordination, burn energy and enjoy moving in a positive environment;
- It encourages connection and belonging, because children play alongside others, practise social skills and build relationships with coaches, families and other children. Parent-and-child games also create opportunities to have fun and succeed together.
"The coach is as far as we are concerned a legend. He remembers all of the children's names, takes time to understand what will work for each group and never fails to deliver a fun and engaging session."

What to expect
Mini Athletics sessions are fun, imaginative and fully coach-led. Children learn and practise running, jumping and throwing skills through stories, challenges and games designed to build coordination, confidence and a positive relationship with movement.
Mini Athletics is open to children from walking age up to their eighth birthday. No referral, previous experience or sporting ability is required. Sessions must be booked in advance through their website. Families check in with the coach when they arrive.
At a child’s first session, a coach will be there to welcome them, explain what will happen and help them settle in. Children are never pressured to join in immediately and are welcome to watch until they feel ready. Families can contact staff beforehand to discuss any worries, additional needs, or anything that may help their child feel comfortable.
No previous athletics or sporting experience is needed. Sessions are suitable for complete beginners, with activities adapted to each child’s age, confidence and ability.
Some sessions also include parent-and-child games. These give families the chance to play, work together and build confidence, trust and connection through shared challenges.
Each session lasts approximately 45 minutes. Families are encouraged to stay for the full session so children can experience the complete routine, but they are free to leave early if their child becomes overwhelmed or needs a break.
Parents, carers and support people are welcome to attend with the child at no additional charge. All adults are asked to stay and watch throughout the session, with space available around the activity area.
More information
Parking and public transport options vary between venues. Families will receive the exact location and arrival information when booking, and Mini Athletics signage will help direct them to the session.
Toilets are available at the venues. Baby-changing and full accessibility facilities may vary, so families are encouraged to contact the team before attending if they have any specific access requirements. They will be happy to explain the venue layout, including entrances, steps, ramps and accessible toilets.
Children should wear comfortable clothing that allows them to run, jump and move freely, with suitable trainers or secure footwear. All athletics equipment is provided. Please bring a water bottle for your child.
Some sessions take place outdoors. Sessions will usually continue in light rain, so children should wear suitable clothing for the weather. If conditions are unsafe or a session needs to move indoors or be cancelled, families will be contacted.
Pushchairs are welcome where space allows. Assistance dogs are welcome. Families should contact the team before bringing any other dogs, as venue rules and available space vary.

Sessions have a cost, and must be booked and paid for on their website which will tell you the price.
