Museum Boost is a free creative wellbeing course using dance and movement inspired by stories from the University of Cambridge Museums and Botanic Garden. It is suitable for older adults who may be feeling less steady, less active, or simply looking to build confidence again.
This activity is good for wellbeing because
- Museum Boost can support physical health by improving strength, balance, and mobility, helping prevent falls and maintain independence;
- It combines movement with culture to stimulate curiosity and support learning and engagement;
- It can foster social connections with others through shared enjoyment, as well as connections with local culture.
"I've never done anything like it! It makes me feel joyous and awakes my curiosity."

What to expect
Museum Boost is a relaxed, creative course designed to support physical and mental wellbeing. It is run in partnership between the University of Cambridge Museums and Cambridge City Council Independent Living Service.
The course is designed for older adults who feel like they are slowing down, and want to bounce back! No previous dance or museum experience is required, the course leader will guide you through all the activities.
Sessions start with an exploration of objects from the University of Cambridge Museums. The stories of these objects inspire the movement and dance session. Sessions end with refreshments and a chance to look again at the objects. The dance is both chair-based and standing, and participants are invited to work at the level that suits them best.
The course runs several times each year. To find out more and book your place contact Ruth Clare, University of Cambridge Museums [email protected] or call Carol Skinner, Cambridge City Council on 07857 664155.
The course is part of the 'Dance with the Museum' programme. Find out more about the programme on the University of Cambridge Museums website.
