Museum Encounters - Parkinson’s Dance Course

Back to Activities

Museum Encounters is a six-week course for people affected by Parkinson’s which runs several times per year. The course is led by dance for health artist Filipa Pereira-Stubbs who uses artefacts and artworks from the University of Cambridge Museums to inspire movement and dance.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • Movement supports physical confidence and mobility;
  • Creativity and storytelling support emotional wellbeing;
  • Shared experiences build connections.

"The movement, the museum stories, and the group together make it really different and very special."

What to expect

Museum Encounters is for people affected by Parkinson’s and their companions.

Sessions start with an exploration of objects from the University of Cambridge Museums. The stories of these objects inspire the movement and dance session. Sessions end with refreshments and a chance to look again at the objects.

The dance is both chair-based and standing, and participants are invited to work at the level that suits them best. If you are not physically independent you are advised to come along with a companion. Companions are welcome to attend free of charge and are invited to participate in the sessions.

To find out if this is something for you, ask about upcoming course dates and book onto the programme, contact [email protected]. They will then ask you to complete an online booking form.
