NOVA Bootcamp Cambridge

Back to Activities

NOVA Bootcamp offers outdoor fitness classes open to adults of all abilities. Sessions are run by qualified personal trainers. They combine resistance training with cardio elements to offer full-body workouts which can improve overall strength and endurance.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • Taking part in the bootcamp sessions can improve cardiovascular health, metabolic function, and muscular endurance. High-intensity workouts raise the heart rate, which can provide significant health benefits.
  • The bootcamps are held in parks and green spaces, exposing participants to natural environments which can improve mood and mental health, and enhance relaxation.
  • The bootcamps can promote a sense of community and teamwork. The group exercises increase motivation through friendly competition and support. Exercising with others can help encourage people to sustain effort for longer periods.

“I had never done bootcamp before, and was quite apprehensive before I started. It is such fun! I’m hooked! I like that it’s suitable for all levels, you can do as much as you’re capable of in a supportive and fun atmosphere.” Danielle, regular participant.

What to expect

Sessions are held multiple times a week at Trumpington Recreation Ground and Cherry Hinton Hall Park. Details of timings are available on the website.

The fitness instructor will greet you at the meeting point to introduce you to the other participants. In Trumpington the meeting point is behind Trumpington Pavilion. In Cherry Hinton Hall Park the meeting point is in the car park.

The bootcamp sessions are typically designed to be intense full-body workouts, however they can be modified to suit people of all abilities. The instructors can provide beginners with scaled-down versions of the exercises using lighter weights, encouraging regular breaks and focusing on proper form. Attendees can then progress to full-range movements and heavier weights over time.

Fitness equipment is provided for all sessions. You are advised to bring a pair of DIY or gardening gloves to protect your hands during upper body exercises. You should wear sports clothes and bring a bottle of water.

More information

There are bicycle locking racks and free parking available at both venues – at Cherry Hinton Hall Park there is a car park, at Trumpington Pavilion there is street parking available nearby.

Sessions can occasionally be cancelled at a short notice, so please check with the organisers before heading out.
