Pilates for Health classes are run by Cambridge City Council's Active Lifestyles Team. They are friendly, welcoming sessions where you will be guided through a series of strength and bone loading exercises, with a focus on the pelvic floor.
This activity is good for wellbeing because
- Practising Pilates can help build your physical strength, flexibility and coordination;
- Practising Pilates can improve core strength, bone mass and pelvic floor control – particularly important in peri-menopausal and menopausal women.
- You can meet new people in a friendly, supportive environment.

What to expect
Pilates for Health classes are suitable for beginners and those with some experience. To take part in the classes you will be required to get on and off the floor. You can complete the classes either barefoot or in socks. You are required to bring your own yoga mat as none are available to borrow.
During the sessions the instructor will guide you through a series of movements, poses, breathing techniques and strength exercises. For some poses they will offer different options that you can try depending on your level of flexibility. You are welcome to take a break to rest at any point during the class.
You should wear something comfortable that you can easily move around in. You should bring a bottle of water and any emergency medications with you i.e. asthma inhalers, GTN sprays, dextrose tablets (as required).
