Royal Airforce Air Cadets 104 (City of Cambridge) Squadron

Back to Activities

The Air Cadets is a youth organisation that provides opportunities for young people to develop personal and professional skills. The 104 (City of Cambridge) Squadron runs various activities including aviation, camping, climbing, target shooting, sports and leadership training.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • You can meet other young people with similar interests and work together as a team;
  • You can learn new things and develop skills through completing training and taking part in activities;
  • You can spend lots of time outdoors, which is good for wellbeing.

“I enjoyed the excitement and challenge of paddle sports”.

“The Chinook flight was a flight of a lifetime”.

“My highlight was getting to go on my first national camp (RIAT) and getting to meet people from so many different squadrons.”

What to expect

The 104 (City of Cambridge) Squadron meet on Monday and Thursday evenings in Cambridge. Young people participate in training in first aid, leadership and STEM topics (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). They also gain knowledge and skills in aviation through training on flight simulators and gaining real-life experience of flying planes and gliders.

At the weekends there are opportunities to take part in a wide variety of outdoor, adventure and sports activities, including rifle shooting, water sports and completing the Duke of Edinburgh Award. There are opportunities for Cadets to go on camps with young people from other squadrons where they can make friends, learn military skills, and visit different RAF Stations to learn about their role within the RAF. For more information about the activities Air Cadets take part in, visit the 104 Squadron website.

Young people can join the Air Cadets from the age of 13 (or 12 if they are in year 8) up until the age of 17. There are usually two intakes per year, in September and January. If you are interested in joining email [email protected] or visit their website for more information.
