Sabr Art and Crafts Group for Women

Back to Activities

Sabr Art and Crafts Group is a friendly women's group that meets on Monday mornings at Brown’s Field Community Centre. There is a different craft activity on offer each week. It's a great opportunity to connect with other women and try something new.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • Taking part in art and crafts is mindful and can help you to relax;
  • You can socialise with other people in a peaceful, quiet environment;
  • You can gain new skills which can help to build your confidence.

"It's improved my sociability and my mental health."

"It's nice to try new things and meet new people. Nehar is encouraging and supportive"

"The room is comfortable and bright. It has big windows so it feels almost like being outdoors."

What to expect

All women aged 18 and over are welcome to attend. The group is a relaxed, supportive space particularly suitable for those who may be feeling isolated, lacking in confidence or struggling with their mental health. It is a multi-cultural group open to adults of all ages. The venue is fully accessible and several regular members have disabilities. You are welcome to bring carer or family member along to the group with you.

When you arrive at the session Nehar will welcome you and introduce you to the other women in the group. She will ask you to sign your name on the register, and show you where you can help yourself to tea, coffee and snacks. She will then explain the different crafts you can take part in that session.

All materials are provided and Nehar provides full instructions and guidance - no previous experience of art and crafts is required. Crafts at the sessions include watercolour painting, art collage, needle felting, card making and still life drawing. There are always mindful colouring sheets available too if you would prefer to do this. You can let Nehar know if there's a particular craft you would like to try in the sessions - suggestions are always welcome.
