Ballet-based exercise class with an emphasis on balance, mobility and coordination aimed at people aged 55 plus but suitable for anyone. Led by Lisa Nixon of LCN Dance Academy.
This activity is good for wellbeing because
- learning or improving a skill is good for the brain;
- dance is sociable – you’ll meet other people and have fun as you learn;
- it’s a great way to improve your core strength, mobility and balance – helping to reduce the risk of falls as you get older.
“I danced when I was a child and I love learning the steps again now I am older. It’s great fun and a good way to forget about anything that’s on my mind for a while.”

What to expect
Silver Swans is ballet for older adults. Each class starts with warm up exercises and then you’ll learn some ballet steps and some choreographed repertoire to music. Sessions end with a warm down and stretching sequence to minimise aches and injury.
Lisa is an experienced and patient teacher, focusing on safe technique whilst growing each dancer’s confidence. Each class lasts 45 minutes. Both men and women are welcome – no previous dance experience is necessary. If you have any mobility issues, email Lisa before booking and she can call you to discuss your needs and if modifications can be made.
Classes are aimed at either beginners, mixed ability or improvers – email Lisa or check the website to find a class that will suit you.
Wear loose comfortable clothing and soft ballet pumps or socks with grips. Bring water to drink – dancing is thirsty work!
