Sing and Sign

Back to Activities

‘Sing and Sign’ is a programme for under 2’s, designed by speech and language experts to help babies communicate and encourage the development of speech.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • you’ll meet new people;
  • you’ll bond with your baby;
  • you’ll have fun!

“This class was amazing. Katherine is wonderful and really kept our baby’s attention in each class. My son and I both benefitted greatly from learning signs – he has just started using some signs at home. I can’t recommend this class enough!”

What to expect?

‘Sing and Sign’ is run in Cambridge and South Cambs by Katherine, alongside teachers Terri, Lisa and Jen.

Babes is for newborn babies up to around 5 months of age. It is a lovely, gentle music and sensory class with a strong emphasis on communication. The course introduces the basics of the ‘Sing and Sign’ approach for those who are keen to sign with their babies. You’ll learn adaptations of familiar songs to enjoy with your baby while you are face to face, during nappy changing, bath time, bedtime and during gentle playtime.

Stage One classes are suitable for babies from around 6 months up to approx. 14 months and you can start at any time between these ages. Babies start to sign back anywhere from around 6 months and continue to use the signs as toddlers to support clear speech development.

Toddling onto Stage Two is suitable for little ones from around 14 months old up to two years old (this can vary depending on the toddler). The class is more physically active and you and your toddler will learn signs for colours, foods, the alphabet, the weather, counting and even beginning phonetic awareness (and much more).

If you aren’t sure which class is for you and your baby or toddler, you can email Katherine on [email protected].
