Wood Woman - Carpentry for Wellbeing

Back to Activities

Imogen from Wood Woman runs DIY, carpentry and woodwork sessions for wellbeing in various locations around Cambridge. You can learn how to use hand tools and make a creation to take away with you, from bird houses to bath trays.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • You can learn new skills and create your own masterpiece!
  • Becoming proficient in woodworking tools and DIY can help to build a sense of independence and confidence;
  • Working with your hands has been found to be good for wellbeing because it is mindful and can bring a sense of calm and focus.

This course was such fun, and I'm looking forward to putting my new skills into practice. Would absolutely recommend!

What to expect

These woodworking sessions are a chance to get hands-on with tools, build confidence and skills, and create an object for your home or office. All sessions are taught to the level of the complete novice, so no prior experience is necessary. All tools, materials, workbenches, and PPE are provided.

Sessions run with no more than six attendees and must be booked ahead of time. A risk assessment and health and safety briefing are provided before the session. You should wear practical clothing and sturdy shoes (no sandals or open toe shoes).

More information

The sessions are hosted through various organisations including Adult Learn and Train, Cambridge Art Makers, Rowan Humberstone and Arthur's Shed at Arthur Rank Hospice. For details of all current and upcoming group sessions visit the Wood Woman website.
