What to expect
221 Divorce Support self-help groups are for anyone who is finding it hard to cope with the break-up of their marriage or long-term partnership. Recovery from a broken relationship can be a very slow and painful journey, but talking together and sharing concerns and fears can help people to regain confidence and build the strength to move forward.
The Cambridge group meets at The Old Bakehouse on Grantchester Road in Trumpington, next to St Mary & St Michael's Church, on the third Saturday of each month from 2.30 to 4.30pm. For upcoming dates visit the website. Anyone aged 18+ needing support is welcome to go along.
The meetings are run entirely by volunteers, who have experienced divorce or separation themselves. As it is a 'self-help' group everyone in the room will be going through a broken relationship, but usually at differing stages. There is no professional input, and all participants respect each other's privacy.
When you arrive at the group you will be greeted and introduced to the other members, and given a cup of tea or coffee. You will join the other members sitting round in a circle and have the opportunity to talk about anything that is worrying you. Frequent topics of conversation include financial worries, family worries, questions about divorce papers and court proceedings, and loneliness. You can contribute to the discussion as much or as little as you like. You are welcome to come and go as you please, there is no pressure to stay for the whole session.
