The EDGE Family and Friends Group

Back to Support

This weekly confidential peer support group is for the adult family and friends of those affected by drug and alcohol misuse. It is led by those with lived experience.

What to expect

Finding out that someone in your family is misusing drugs or alcohol can be a real shock, whether they are a child, brother or sister, or your partner. You may feel that there is nowhere to turn and you may be worried about all sorts of consequences, from dealing with the law to worrying about how other people will react. Serious drug or alcohol problems in the family can create tension and distress, but family communication and support can make a real difference. Although you may feel alone, rest assured that there are many other people experiencing the same things as you.

The EDGE Family and Friends Group meets in the main cafe area at the Edge Cafe on Monday evenings 6.30 - 8pm. You don't need a referral and there's no need to book - you can simply turn up to any session you can make. You will be welcomed by the facilitator who will invite you to take a seat within the group. You do not need to talk, you can simply listen in if you feel more comfortable doing that. You do not need to stay for the duration of the group. It is recommended to arrive at the start of the meeting, but if you are running late do go along anyway.

You are very welcome to contact Gail for a chat about the group before going along. Contact her on 07848 871323 or [email protected]

If you are coming with a supporter or carer, they can drop you off at the café, then collect you outside once the group has finished.
